El Ministerio de Educación, Cultura y Deporte publica el informe del convenio para el estudio integral del estado de conservación de la cueva de Altamira y su arte paleolítico

portada-AltamiraThe report, published as the number 24 of the prestigious book series “Monographs of the National Museum and Research Centre of Altamira”, has been finally published and could be assessed directly by the international scientific community. This book constitutes the crowning of the studies conducted in the cave by a research team which began working in Altamira cave in the middle of the 1990’s (European project ENV4-CT95-0104 on deterioration of rock art in karstic caves by mass tourism), continued from 2003 to 2005 with a contract with the Ministry of Culture, and a new contract from 2007 to 2009, which had its epilogue with a last period of microenvironmental monitoring from 2010 to 2012 also funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport, until the decision of the board of trustees of Altamira Museum of funding a Biannual multidisciplinary Research Program dedicated to the preventive conservation of Altamira cave, as a management strategy applied to the preservation of the cave. The new volume is authored by thirteen researchers including several members of the IRNAS research group “Environmental Microbiology and Cultural Heritage”.
