The Instituto de Recursos Naturales y Agrobiología de Sevilla (IRNAS) invites experienced researchers to apply for one of 60 grants under the research talent rescruitment programme EMERGIA. The Instituto de Recursos Naturales y Agrobiología de Sevilla (IRNAS) is a multidisciplinary center focused on conducting research on the use and conservation of soil-plant-water natural resources, focusing mainly on tackle problems derived from their exploitation in arid and semi-arid areas. Besides pursuing high standard scientific production of international relevance, we develop applications and tools useful for stakeholders in the agriculture and forest industries, environment protection Agencies, and Public Administration. Our aim is to improve productivity with the minimum impact on the environment in order to ensure the sustainability of natural resources. EMERGIA researchers will be part of the IRNAS Junior Group Leaders Program. The IRNAS will provide access to all research facilities and a mentor who is an IRNAS Researcher who heads a research group where the EMERGIA researcher would be initially integrated.

Seven research lines are offered:

1) Multidisciplinary research on microbe-mineral interactions and bioweathering in volcanic caves, blending microbiology, mineralogy and biogeochemistry.

1) Biodegradación y biorrecuperación: aumento de la biodisponibilidad de contaminantes orgánicos mediante la respuesta táctica de bacterias flageladas.

2) Aprovechamiento optimizado de los constituyentes de cultivos agroindustriales y forestales como materias primas para la obtención de productos de alto valor añadido en el marco de las Biorrefinerías de la lignocelulosa.

3) Digitalización del riego del riego de plantaciones de olivar y otras especies leñosas y en métodos de riego deficitario para una Agricultura Intensiva Sostenible, con la que conseguir un beneficio justo para el productor, el menor impacto posible en el ambiente, potenciar la biodiversidad y mejorar las condiciones socioeconómicas de la población rural.

7) Establecimiento de estrategias de aplicación basadas en la preparación de adsorbentes nanoestructurados como carbón biológico o biochar y minerales de la arcilla para el comportamiento y la bioactividad de plaguicidas quirales y compuestos naturales para su potencial uso como bioplaguicidas en suelos agrícolas.
