Description of the service

The IRNAS Confocal Microscopy Service provides its services both to members of the Institute itself and to other CSIC researchers. The Service includes start-up and commissioning of the equipment and optional technical assistance by the responsible personnel.
The Service has an Olympus FV1000 spectral confocal microscope.
Our users are mainly from the field of biology, although occasional material studies may be carried out.
The samples we usually analyse are in vivo cultures of microorganisms, plant and animal tissues, biofilms and surface materials.

Services

The Olympus FV1000 confocal system allows a wide range of applications due to its laser configuration and spectral technology, such as:

  • Three-dimensional analysis of biological samples: immunofluorescence in cells, tissues, whole organisms of a certain size and biofilms. With the possibility of working optical sections both horizontally (xy) and vertically (xzy) – Simultaneous or sequential acquisition studies of different areas of the same sample or different wells of the same preparation in 2D, 3D and 4D (Mark and Find and Time-lapse experiments).
  • Lambda scan studies for spectral detection to obtain: the autofluorescence curves of different samples, the emission spectra of the fluorophores, if unknown, and to eliminate or minimise problems of overlapping spectra.
  • In certain materials, it allows images of their surface to be obtained by reflection and subsequent analysis of surfaces, roughness, etc.
  • Colocalisation studies of up to five markers emitting in the ultraviolet, visible and infrared range, as well as internalisation and intracellular transit.

It will also be provided:

  • Collaboration throughout the study process and assistance in optimising working conditions.
