This Friday, January 24, 2025, trials of the Citizen Science project “We recycle compost from selectively collected urban biowaste in urban gardens” (RECICOMP-HUERTOS) began at the IES Pino Montano in Seville. In the project, 59 second-year ESO students and 13 first-year high school students will participate with their teacher Cristina de la Rosa. This study will test a high-quality compost from selectively collected MSW for the cultivation of various vegetables. The compost comes from the municipality of Olvera. It has been supplied by Básica SAU, a public company that manages the waste of the Association of Municipalities of the Sierra de Cádiz. The work has begun by preparing the ground for several flowerbeds and incorporating the compost into the soil.

This project is carried out in collaboration with the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology – Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (project reference FCT-22-18403).
