Interview with Dr. José Carlos del Río in the journal CSIC Investiga

The scientific informative journal CSIC Investiga publishes an interview with Dr. José Carlos del Río in its special volume dedicated to renewable energies. The group of Dr. Jose Carlos del Río (Plant Biomass – Valorization and Uses) has long expertise in the valorization of plant biomass for the production of biofuels, bioproducts and biomaterials, which are currently obtained from non-renewable fossil resources. Among the biofuels, the second-generation bioethanol (2G bioethanol) is obtained from crops and agricultural residues that do not compete with those crops used for food and therefore do not interfere in their price. The EU has set the goal of ensuring that at least 32% of transportation fuels by 2030 comes from renewable resources, according to the Renewable Energy Directive 2018/2001. The development of biofuels from biomass will contribute to the decarbonisation of the transportation sector, one of the largest emitters of greenhouse gases.
