This Thursday, February 6, 2025, the 30 students from the 3rd and 4th ESO of Diversification from the IES Ibn Jaldún of Dos Hermanas have carried out an experimental workshop within the framework of the Citizen Science project “We recycle compost from selectively collected urban waste in urban gardens (RECICOMPHUERTOS)” in which this centre participates. To check the development of the plants, the students measured the vegetables they grow in their garden with bio-waste compost (organic fraction of selectively collected garbage). They compared them with those grown with manure. With their teachers Daniel Vázquez and Elena Baeza-Rojano, they have also measured the chlorophyll content using a portable SPAD analyzer. In this way, they have been able to check the effect of fertilization on the nutrition of the plants.

This project is carried out in collaboration with the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology – Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (project reference FCT-22-18403).
