Description of the service
The Plant Crop Biotechnology Unit (UBCV, code 824750), is a scientific-technological service provision unit present at the Institute of Natural Resources and Agrobiology of Seville (IRNAS, CSIC). The UBCV offers internal and external services (including other research organizations, companies and administrations) in the field of plant biotechnology, including:
- Assistance to company R&D&i programs:
- Plant improvement.
- Biology and genomics applied to crops of agronomic interest, etc.
- In-vitro cultivation off plant tissues and micropropagation of herbaceous and woody plants
- In-vitro germplasm conservation.
- Embryo rescue.
- Design of molecular markers.
- Crop varietal identification services, etc.
The service has two laboratories:
- Molecular biology laboratory equipped with:

- Electrophoresis equipment.
- Two thermal cyclers.
- Two real-time qRT-PCR equipment.
- Plant tissue culture laboratory equipped with:

- Two in-vitro chambers with LED lighting that add up to more than 60 m2 of useful surface area.
- Two able to be visited plant growth chambers.
- Greenhouse.
Quality Commitment
The service has a Letter of Commitment available on the IRNAS website, and has obtained ISO 9001 certification with reference number ES133745-1.
