On Tuesday, May 6, the gardeners of the V Centenario Park in Utrera (Association of Ecological Urban Gardeners of Utrera) had the opportunity to visit the biowaste composting plant in Villamartín (Cádiz), operated by the public company Básica SAU. This company manages urban waste for the Association of Municipalities of the Sierra de Cádiz through a door-to-door collection system. This achieves highly effective separation of the organic waste and produces high-quality compost, which has been used by several of the Utrera gardeners in the project trials. The participants also visited the Olvera urban garden and enjoyed a guided tour of Olvera, supported by the Olvera City Council. Finally, the participants enjoyed a communal lunch.

This event is part of the outreach activities of the Citizen Science project “We recycle compost from selectively collected urban waste in urban gardens (RECICOMP-HUERTOS)”. This project is carried out in collaboration with the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology – Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities (project reference FCT-22-18403).
