GREENHOUSE AND PLANT GROWTH CHAMBER FACILITIES

Description of the service

The Greenhouse and Cultivation Chambers Service rents space for the growth and cultivation of plants under controlled conditions. This service is offered both to IRNAS groups and to other possible external users, whether from other CSIC centres, universities and PRIs or companies.

Part of the facilities and equipment have been acquired thanks to the following projects:

“Implementation of a new Greenhouse Service and Plant Cultivation Chambers at IRNAS-CSIC”. EQC2018-004698-P. State Sub-programme for Research Infrastructures and Scientific-Technical Equipment 2018. Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities.

Services

The Service has the following facilities:

• 1. • A greenhouse divided into two modules and an entrance atrium. The photoperiod and temperature are controlled by specialized software. Shading is available. It is enabled for Type I GMO handling.
     • Two visitable climatic chambers with temperature, photoperiod and humidity control:
     • A phytotron-type climatic chamber (Aralab Fitoclima 1200 PLH) that allows precise control of environmental conditions: temperature, relative humidity, CO2 level and radiation. The usable capacity is approximately 1200 litres. It has the possibility of programming day/night cycles and variations in temperature, humidity and radiation.
     • Two vertical autoclaves with atmospheric venting. For temperatures from 115 to 134 ºC (0.62 to 2 bar): 75 and 80 L capacity.
       • Preset 75. It has a capacity of 75 L and is located in the atrium of the greenhouse. It is especially dedicated to the sterilisation of substrates and biological waste.
       • Preset III80. With a capacity of 80 litres, it is located in room Equipment 8 in the basement. Intended for sterilisation of culture media, tools and clean material.

Conditions of Use

• The use of space in the greenhouse and in the cultivation chambers shall require prior application to the person in charge of the Service.
• When applying, please indicate the responsible researcher and the project for which the position is to be filled.
• It is the responsibility of the users to leave the area used in a perfectly clean condition at the end of the occupation.
• The material must be clearly identified indicating the responsible user. All unidentified material will be removed within 24-48 h.
• It is important to notify those responsible of any phytosanitary or operational incidents that are observed.
• In order to use the autoclave, users must register in the list available next to the appliance.
